Community service is intertwined into American culture. And at CIEE, we truly believe community service is an essential aspect of the High School USA Program. Much like cultural exchange, participating in community service activities allows us to better understand the needs of those we interact with. It creates a ripple effect, and makes everyone involved feel more connected to and invested in their community.
That is why all CIEE High School USA students are required to complete at least eight hours of community service per semester. Last year, our students submitted about 15,000 hours of their time giving back to their community - this is an amazing feat, considering how many students needed to arrive home early to their home countries due to the global pandemic.
